One of the best outings we've been on is a trip about an hour North of town to a park called PANACA.  It is a very nice clean place that has many domestic animals such as pigs, goats, cows, and dogs that the children can interact with.  For about a buck, you can take the dogs on a walk or play with them in a pen.  It is a truly unique place that the kids love and is relaxing for the parents.
